Learning to Fly

Island-Air

George Kirkish's Island-Air on Vashon Island is a specialized service that offers that which we could not find for ourselves when we wanted to learn to fly "start-to-finish" in a taildragger. Unlike our own company, you can get J-3 Cub instruction on weekends during the summertime when our own instructor is tied up with biplane rides. Plus, you can also rent his beautiful J-3 Cub if you've checked out or gotten your endorsement through him. But the most outstanding feature of Island-Air is that you have the ability to learn-to-fly from an introduction flight to getting your pilot's ticket in a tailwheel airplane. His second plane is a Maule 180. While Olde Thyme Aviation, Inc offer rides up to 25 miles away from Boeing Field, Island-Air can take you to places further away such as St. Helens, the San Juan Islands, on full day custom tours. Contact George Kirkish at: [email protected]  or call at 206-567-4697. Full website is www.island-air.com

Stearman Instruction

If you need Stearman instruction, we strongly recommend Preston Aviation at Bob White Field north of Orlando, Florida. This is where we learned to fly biplanes ourselves originally. Contact Tim Preston at www.flytailwheel.com
